Google Brings Image Generation into AI Overviews in Search
As generative and visual search converge, original diagrams, product visuals, and clearly described images become more important discovery assets.
What happened
Google marked the 25th anniversary of Google Images by announcing a new browsable Images experience and image generation inside AI Overviews using its Nano Banana model. Users can move between finding existing visual material and creating a custom image from a prompt within Search.
Why it matters for enterprise leaders
For enterprises, visual search strategy should extend beyond stock photography. Original process diagrams, product screenshots, data visualizations, and evidence-rich images can communicate expertise that generic text cannot. Those assets still need descriptive filenames, alt text, surrounding context, stable URLs, rights management, and accessible alternatives. Generated images should be labeled appropriately and not used to imply real-world evidence that does not exist.
Questions to take into your next leadership discussion
- Which concepts are better explained visually than through generic prose?
- Are images original, accessible, and tied to useful context?
- Is synthetic imagery clearly distinguished from evidence or photography?
